The town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its numerous bookshops, nestles close to the superb Black mountains range. It has a unique character of its own with many varied & scenic walks in & around the locality.

The mountain road to Hay Bluff, Capel-y-Ffin & Lanthony Priory eventually takes you through beautiful scenery to Abergavenny, with lots of interesting historical places to see en-route. One of great interest is St Mary’s Church at Llanthony built in 1762 & the Monastry built in 1870 at Chapel-y-Ffin by Father Ignatious, also Llanthony Priory founded in 1108 by William-De- Lacy.

In Hay-on-Wye itself there are some wonderful walks along the River Wye. The many local attractions are: cycling, canoeing, walking, horseriding, climbing, swimming, camping, fishing & of course just relaxing !

Hay-on-Wye has a large car park, on stepping from your car you should take time to absorb the beauty of the rolling hills & mountains that confront you.The Tourist Information office is close by, also the craft centre with several specialist shops.

There are numerous pubs & nice places to eat & of course lots of bookshops.
The castle , built by William-De-Breos 11 in around 1200, dominates the skyline.

Hay-on-Wye, as the second hand book capital of the world , hosts the Festival of Literature every year at the end of May- this brings many thousands of visitors from far & wide.
